In this video, I begin the preparation of applying gesso to a blank 30" X 48" canvas. This process will create a smooth flat surface to begin my next oil painting of a rainy urban street from a 5th floor perspective. I demonstrate sanding the canvas and applying broad brushstrokes to achieve a smooth finish. This is the time I am my true self with a blank canvas filled with possibilities of a new image.
