Tonight, I am adding in more of the forest in the lower section of the canvas. This is a mixture of French Ultramarine Blue and Yellow Ochre that makes the dark green for the undulating trees. I work from the outer edge of the foreground toward the middle of the canvas. Sometimes there is nothing more that can be said about process. It is just about being in the moment. One of the things that struck me about this image of the pines is that they appear be flames leaping toward the sky. Maybe the trees appear to be clouds of green smoke. I am trying to get this sense of the trees as flickering flames or verdant smoke onto the canvas.
