Berlin Along the Spree

Today, I am beginning a new painting inspired by architecture along the River Spree in Berlin, Germany. I am applying yellow ochre straight from the tube with a number 10 flat brush to create the compositional outline. The canvas is round and 13 inches in circumference. Working on a round canvas can create more interest in the composition by providing a telescopic view of the subject. I am also very interested in the contrast between the traditional and modern architectural elements in Berlin. The Bode Museum to the right was created in the Baroque Revival style in the late 19th century where the Fernsehturm in the distant background is a minmalist style communications tower from the middle 20th century. Both appear connected by the flowing waters of the River Spree.
